If you were dazed by the
'Grindin' video Oslo showed you, then you might be fond of this one, too. It’s another stop and motion animation, but still, freaking amazing to watch. This old technique requires a lot of effort to create an impressing moving image. It’s like an advanced flipbook we used to make in the ’90's, filmed with a special camera, which can record frame after frame. Another option is to shoot an immense amount of digital photos like in the above-mentioned video. That this is still a hype is been proved by the whole bunch of claymation series, like Wallace and Gomit. And, then, there is
Patrick Boivin: a French Canadian guy, autodidact director, camera man, music maker, etc.. Before Hollywood picked him up Patrick made stop and motion animations in his kitchen, which were based on a storyboard he had drawn first. In these movies you can recognize his predilection for comics and stuff since action heroes or other boy toys ruled them. To save time he chose making movies above painting comic strips, what he did when he was 15. Great choice ‘cause his films are ridiculous! See, for example, the Unboxing Ninja’s that was sponsored by Google to promote the new phone Nexus.
The storyboard of this one is also
online. Another one is the funky Black Ox Skateboard.
Or, what about his insane Transformer Jazz!
If you still think this is undemanding, then you have to watch the
making off of it. After all, it’s not that weird that he got a great career in the film business. Woop woop!
